That time Deej binned it at the ring - Chassis Spoilers

Every year since I’ve known him, if he’s been in the UK, Deej has made a trip to the Nurburgring. Every time Deej has been, I’ve been invited and politely declined. You see, my car shares more similarities to a crab than a racecar when it comes to tracking straight.

Deej, however, has always done things the right way when it comes to putting a car on track. Good tyres, good suspension, proper alignment and making sure anything that’s wear and tear is in the best condition it can be. Which is why I was surprised to find out that on his recent trip, he binned it at 120 mph. I know what you’re wondering. Is there a video? Yes. Yes there is.

As you can see from the clip, all did not go according to plan. I caught up with Deej when he came back to figure out what it was that caused this, as I know he knows the track well enough to not risk his life at 120 mph.

I was curious about what was going through his head more than anything, but also what he thought was the issue. This is what he had to say.

Not much you can do but try and save it or ride it out

If you haven’t met Deej before, he’s a very laid back guy. So I have no doubt that becoming a fiery ball of metal was, at no point, something that went through his head.

We all had our own theories on what happened, but all came to the same conclusion that a little more down force, as it was the back of the car that lifted, could only help. So a big ol’ wing seemed a logical choice here.

Kris had dabbled in this before, so tweaked some of his existing designs and came up with what we’ll be producing in the very near future.

Whilst designed for an Mr2 Spyder/Roadster, this setup will be modular and work for a number of different cars.

The wing was designed to work with the bash bar we have for sale. The great thing about it is how easy it is to take off, for those days when you want to be a little more low key. It’ll also eventually link up to a rear diffuser to giver a range of options depending on use.

For a lot of us, this is just a trend in the car scene we all want to be on board with. For Deej, this will hopefully mean he doesn’t bin it next time he’s at the ring. We’ll send him out there to test it and get back to you!
